Festive meals at Les Grands Buffets: bookings open in the last quarter and are paid in full

The four festive meals at Les Grands Buffets, dinner on 24 December, lunch on 25 December, dinner on 31 December and lunch on 1 January, open for booking "during the last quarter", the restaurant writes in its FAQ. That quarter starts on 1 October, and these four meals come under their own terms and conditions: you pay the full amount when you book, you can no longer change anything, and cancelling less than eleven days ahead gets you nothing back.

These rules sit in a twelve-page document titled Conditions Générales Repas de Fêtes, separate from the terms that apply the rest of the year. They cover payment, flexibility and opening times.

Payment is taken on the day you book

An ordinary meal is booked with a deposit. The restaurant offers a cancellation option at €5 per person, non-refundable and not deducted from the meal, which lets you cancel free of charge up to eleven days before, or a deposit of €20 per person, deducted from the menu price and lost if you cancel. This choice only exists if you book at least 37 days before the meal. Prepayment of the menu comes next, payable from 60 days before the date and due 30 days before at the latest.

For a festive meal, this timetable disappears. The terms require payment in full at the time of booking, by bank card only. A receipt comes with the confirmation, and the restaurant asks you to show it on the day of the meal.

The prices of these four meals are described as specific and different from the everyday price. The restaurant only publishes them when bookings open, on its website and in its booking tool. The festive menu includes a prestige buffet, unlimited champagne and a fine wine. Children count as adults: there is no children's menu and no reduced price whatever their age, and they are included in the total number of guests from the moment you book.

Nothing can be changed afterwards

A festive meal booking cannot be modified. Not the number of guests, children included, not the date, not the name of the person it is booked for. To change any of these three, you cancel, then book again with whatever is still available at that point.

The booking is also personal and non-transferable: you cannot pass it on to someone else, whether free of charge or for money. The restaurant also forbids bookings made on behalf of others by a tourism professional, a company, a broker, an association or a club.

Cancellation goes exclusively through the MON COMPTE personal account of the person who booked. Less than eleven days before the meal, the restaurant refunds nothing. Beyond that point, it keeps a sum per booked guest. A waiver of charges remains possible in a case of force majeure or an illness backed by a medical certificate, with documents sent by recorded delivery.

The evening ends at one in the morning

The two festive dinners start later and finish later than an ordinary dinner. Guests are welcomed from 19:45 to 21:45 on 24 and 31 December, against 19:15 to 21:15 the rest of the year, and the dining room closes at 01:00 instead of midnight. The buffets follow the same shift: starters until 23:15, the rotisserie and hot buffets until 23:45, cheese and desserts until 00:30. On an ordinary evening, these three closing times fall at 22:30, 23:00 and 23:45.

The two lunches move less. On 25 December and 1 January, guests are welcomed from 12:00 to 13:30, a quarter of an hour less than on an ordinary day, and the dining room closes at 16:45 instead of 16:30. Starters close at 15:00, a quarter of an hour earlier than usual; the rotisserie at 15:30 and cheese and desserts at 16:15, as for the rest of the year.

The buffets close at fixed times. Arriving at the end of the welcome window therefore shortens the meal without changing the bill.

What to know before you click

Dress affects entry. The restaurant turns away tracksuits, shorts, sports Bermuda shorts, swimwear, vests, sports shirts and flip-flops or sliders; smart Bermuda shorts are accepted, and caps and hats stay off indoors. Pushchairs, prams and carrycots are not allowed in the dining rooms. Four dining areas receive guests, and the restaurant may seat you in a different room from the one requested at booking.
